Visible Goals

Last week we talked about Anna’s winter swim season ending with her Regional Meet.  She had set a the goal of dropping 10 seconds in her swims.  The cool part if that she wrote down here goal on her board in her room.

GoalsShe did this on her own.

As the one that will be her coach next season during the high school swim season, I think this is very exciting.  This will help her be ready for the long 14 week season by having a clear vision of what she wants to accomplish.

And the key part if this is that it was visible.  She could see it and track it every day during the week leading up to the meet and each night after the meet was done.

She did not even know it, but she also followed the SMART goal setting process.

  • Specific
  • Measurable
  • Assignable
  • Realistic
  • Time based

As a 13 year old this is a life skill that goes beyond swimming.  And as a parent, as well as a coach, I will do everything in my power to promote this type of behavior in the future.
